New Car Paint Protection: Everything You Need to Know

Ceramic and Graphene coatings

Paint protection treatment is an extra but optional service offered initially by dealerships mainly to new car buyers, however, over years there are now more experienced professional ceramic coating applicators and advanced products in the market leaving some original products obsolete.

The service to apply paint protection is a tedious one and involves a large process of paint preparation and the application of a combination of clear chemicals on top of the car’s original paint so the two can bond.

The applied layers form a sacrificial layer and shield the paint from damage resulting from scratches, tree sap, stone chips, and bird droppings. It also aids in maintaining the factory-fresh look on a new car by ensuring the paint doesn’t fade by reducing UV exposure from the atmosphere. This can be achieved without any noticeable change on the car’s surface, other than the usual expectations being a high gloss slippery finish

The paint protection process is one of the best low-maintenance and reliable ways of keeping a car looking as good as possible for years depending on which product you choose and the quality of the application. The cost of this service is not definite and usually varies depending on the type of paint protection, the make & model of the car, and the applicator’s experience. High-quality ceramic and graphene coatings can be driven home in the rain within 2 hrs of application

Introducing Australian-made nano ceramic paint protection coatings – One of the standout protective coating products in Australia and Europe and for good reason. This paint protection surface coating product has been tested by industry experts, chemical processes and professionals with reference to the highest industry standards and is certified to meet the D6-17487 specification.

Exterior paint protection

The product features a high-performance ceramic formula of Silicon Dioxide (Si02) Silicon Carbide (SiC) Titanium Dioxide (Tio2) and Graphene. The result is a coating that gives the raw paintwork durability and a long-lasting shine. Thanks to the coating’s abrasion-resistant nature, you don’t have to worry about waxing or shining your new car’s paint.

The paint protection coating is also hard, and the universal MOHs Hardness Scale has tested this. The scale, which ranks the resistance level of substances, rates the product as four times harder than the usual quartz-based surface protection products offered today.

Overall, supporting Australian manufacturing is not only a benefit but offering one of the highest grades in coatings and one of the best protection products currently offered by authorized applicators like Melbourne Mobile Detailing paint protection.

Silica content in coatings

Silica in paint protection coatings – How much is too much?

There’s a new spiel being spread in the paint protection industry to reel in more customers and I have recently had a few concerned and confused clients asking me about 100% Silica coatings that they have been preached about

As a passionate ceramic coating applicator I had to do the research and contacted a few coating chemists from overseas. The result – I can officially tell you that there are no ceramic coatings in the world without a liquid carrier. For more information on coating options

When a ceramic coating company claims that they have a solvent free coating, it means that they are not considering hydrocarbons as solvents, but only alcohol based as such.
In some countries hydrocarbons are considered as solvents.
When they claim that it’s a non-flammable liquid, they mean that the flash point is higher than 63 degrees (Celsius).
In this case, it’s considered as a NON-flammable liquid.
The temperature below 63, and close to it, is considered as a low flammable liquid (grade 3) similar characters to diesel fuel.
Simply put – It’s all a big marketing hoax in my professional opinion!

We have discovered these companies that claim 100% solvent free use products called Alkoxisilanes and are all hydrocarbon based with a high flash point, that’s all it is.

Application of such coatings are exactly the same as all others and sometimes even trickier
These same companies claim to have a 100% silica product. You simply CAN NOT apply 100% silica!
Remember the rule – There has to be a liquid carrier. whether it’s alcohol based or solvent based, and it has to take some percentage of the formulation.

Issues found with ceramic paint protection

Some of the new car ceramic paint protection issues we have found during the many years of experience using a variety of different styles of paint protection coatings. One of the few question that many clients want to know but many are worried to offer the answers to.

So we are all aware of all the benefits and positives of having a car treated with a coating but what are some of the problems or negative aspects that can come with a ceramic coatings?

At Melbourne Mobile Detailing (MMD) transparency and honesty is everything, I have been in business for over 10 years now and the last 5 years have only specialised in ceramic coatings while aiming for a 5 star service from start to finish. SO are ceramic coatings an invisible force field, that is bullet proof, scratch proof and no matter what happens will never be affected? Absolutely not!!! Sadly this industry has been over exaggerated and many distributors have promised the world only to come short when it comes to warranty issues and all for a quick dollar while ruining the industry for many genuine applicators

Although what you will find is that most problems related to ceramic coatings can be rectified by having a professional authorised applicator that makes you aware of these possible issues, educates you on how to prevent them, and explains why they exist. Education is key and once explained properly then it becomes a lot easier to understand the how, what and where these issues may arise from.

I choose to use Autotriz nano ceramic paint protection for many reasons and as you continue to read this blog you will start to understand why a genuine, independently tested product that comes with a genuine warranty is beneficial for the applicator and the client

Issue #1: The upfront cost and weighing out the benefits.

Yes, ceramic coatings are expensive (Genuine coatings by a reputable brand are) and that upfront cost is difficult for many prospective clients to wrap their head around. $800 + for a 2 year coating? $1,000+ for a professional grade coating? But its a good idea to keep in mind that these prices include preparation and the cost of materails including the coating itself
I find the best way to break down this issue is with the following. How much lifetime value will the coating add to the vehicle? If the coating does what it says (and is guaranteed if you are purchasing from a certified applicator that offers a genuine warranty) and your vehicle looks very similar to the way it did when you first purchased it, the increase in overall value is going to easily surpass that up front cost of having the coating applied.

Either in resale or trade in value, simply the protection it self will cover the up front cost of the coating, not to mention the much reduced price of having a detailer or detail shop cut into your paint work, wax and seal the vehicle 2, 3, 4 times a year which in turn will minimise the paint thickness and cause more damage then good over a few years.

If you are paying $200 to have the vehicle waxed 3 times a year, in as little as two years you have recouped the cost of a professional grade coating, while receiving much better protection and not causing unecessary damage to your paint work

Issue #2: Water spotting/etching

Yes, ceramic coated vehicles can be susceptible to water spots, but so is every other type of vehicle. The key here is taking proper care to dry the vehicle, or if using automatic car washes, making sure they have a spot free rinse at the end of the wash.

Water spots occur when water is left to dry on the surface and as the water evaporates it leaves behind the minerals that were picked up in the water. These minerals are what makes up those pesky water spots and certainly ruin the look of your paint work over time

This is where I believe proper education is invaluable. If you were to perform a rinseless wash to the vehicle, the chance of water spots falls to none. Although it opens up another box of issues in itself and will leave that for another blog post

If you were to two bucket method to wash the vehicle, washing it in the morning or evening during hot months, then drying it completely, the chance of water spots is very minimal.

While this can be an issue, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Issue #3: Coating premature failure

Ouch, this is a scary one. I’m going to pay all of this money for this coating, and there is a possiblity it can fail on me? Yes, coatings can prematurely fail. That being said, in the hundreds of coatings I have applied, I have never had to reapply a professional grade coating. The only re applications I have done were on coatings that had got to the end of their life cycle (such as two year coatings).

So how does one prevent this? There are a couple of ways…

1. Use a reputable detailer that you trust, do your research online and have a look for their reviews, videos, comments and even call them as its easy to get a feel of how much passion the applicator has for his work after a few short minutes over the phone. Also be sure that your chosen applicator uses products that are trusted, independantly tested and proven over time, there have been a few shops starting to use their own in house coating making unrealistic claims and offering up to 4 or 5 layers of coating (Warning signs and many bells ring here). Most reasons people would hide the brand name they use and offer a different name would be cost cutting and not wanting the consumer to know the brand they currently use because of cost cutting methods or they use a coating that simply does not offer a warranty. The list can go on and on but its obvious why this can be a dodgy practice. A good detailer will not only stand behind his or her work, but will be completely transparent about the products and processes they use (Passionate applicators will not relabel a cheap and cheerful coating to try and rip off their customers with the unkown). There will be no mystery or subterfuge involved, you will be completely informed about what you are purchasing, the brand offered, how it works, how the process works, and your responsibilities once the product is applied.

We choose to use Autotriz nano ceramic paint protection in Melbourne

2. Use a detailer that offers a warranty or guarantee on the coatings they sell. Not only a workmanship guarantee but also a fully backed warranty by the manufacturer of the coating they choose to use. While there are often requirements in order to keep or uphold a warranty, it does provide peace of mind to the consumer that is something goes wrong with the product or service provided, they will not be responsible for paying to fix it later on. While warranties are not always 100% guaranteed protection against risk, they do offer you a “second layer” of defense when combined with a professional detailer that conducts him or herself with the highest level of integrity.

Hopefully this article will shine some light onto you about the issues that can come with ceramic coatings. In my opinion as a professional, the long term benefits to your vehicle far outweigh the risks, especially considering a majority of the risk comes from the detailer hired to apply the coating, not the product brand itself.

What is car paint protection?

What is car paint protection?

A quick breakdown – Most paint protection or ceramic protective coatings are powered by nanotechnology

Commonly comprised of either Si14 or Si02 (Silica Dioxide) & provide hydrophobic properties (among other benefits) when applied properly. Simply put hydrophobic coatings prevent water from touching the base material and in turn protects the substrate (Your physical paint work)

Why should I buy paint protection for my new car?

Si14 is extremely resistant to all aggressive contaminants from pH 1 to pH 12 which includes most acids, alkali & solvents. Of course, coming into contact with these contaminants can wear the expected durability of your coatings life span. Feel free to ask us for more information on the care & maintenance of your protective solution!

Due to the nature of nanotechnology & the hydrophobic properties present, our protective solutions provide piece of mind for those more environmentally conscious. The need to use aggressive & potentially more hazardous cleaners is greatly reduced, minimising your carbon footprint. Future labour normally spent cleaning your surface can also be cut by up to 50%, saving both time & money. This is aided by the self-cleaning ability our coatings provide in between washes.

Bacterial & virus build-up is also reduced, enhancing overall hygiene. Decontamination of any surface can be achieved with ease as a result of the repellent functionality.

The application possibilities for our services are endless and doesnt stop at just cars. Autotriz nano ceramic coatings can be applied in the following environments just to name a few.
Automotive – Cars, RV’s etc
Marine – Small boats, yachts etc
Aviation – Aircraft, helicopters etc
Households
Hotels
Pools
Spas
Factories & many more

What is Paint Protection?

Real paint protection is applying a high technology coating to the paint of your car that will last for years rather than months, to help protect against the harsh Australian elements like sun, rain, trees etc. Paint Protection has received a bad name mostly from car dealerships that charge huge fees when you buy a new car, quality paint protection should not cost $2,000+ that is ridiculous.

Why should I buy paint protection?

What is paint protection by Melbourne Mobile Detailing

What is paint protection???

It all begins with Autotriz nano ceramic coatings

Silicon (Silica) Dioxide is an oxide of silica with the chemical formula SiO2. This technology allows an end user to spray coat industrial and domestic surfaces with a super durable coating of invisible, easy to clean glass. The application of SiO2 is amazingly straight forward. After proper preparation of surfaces and fabrics can be coated within minutes

The above photos is recent work performed by George from Melbourne Mobile Detailing and paint protection melbourne

The application method allows the end user to deposit a nano scale layer of molecular, particle free glass, onto the surface of most items. The molecules of glass come from pure quartz sand. Just like domestic glass, the coatings are chemically inert and highly resistant to acids. The coatings also offer resistance to alkalis and solvents.

For the very best ceramic paint protection

Although there are many similarities to standard glass. These coatings are stunningly different. The layer is flexible, breathable, highly durable, heat tolerant, anti-microbial and offers non stick and “easy clean” characteristics. The thinnest coatings are undetectable, super phobic (repel oil and water), anti-microbial, super-durable, heat tolerant, breathable, flexible, physiologically harmless, easy to apply and environmentally friendly. All coated surfaces become “easy clean” and in most instances the coated surfaces can be cleaned with water alone.

German made advanced technology is the solution to many problems in the home and in many fields of industry. In healthcare and food production, where cleanliness is vital, the coatings have proven to be the answer to problems associated with difficult to clean surfaces, previously a breeding ground for bacteria. In the auto industry, where paint protection, stain proofing and rain repellent surfaces are sought, Autotriz ceramic coatings have proven to be the chosen technology. In the aviation sector where interior and exterior surfaces have to be protected, nano ceramic technology is being rapidly adopted. The list is almost endless.

A film of nano ceramic, only 100nm (approximately 500 times thinner than a human hair), is incredibly durable. Several domestic coatings can withstand 100,000 wiping actions; some of our industrial coatings can withstand many 100s of thousands of wiping actions.

Car paint protection by Melbourne Mobile Detailing

nano ceramic ultra thin coating technology has been described as “one of the world’s most versatile technologies” and when you consider it is easy to apply, heat tolerant, highly durable, chemically inert, food safe, low cost and anti bacterial, you can see why. Autotriz has been used as a food additive for many years.

It is commonly used in products such as toothpaste, ketchup, and beer. However another of its great values to the food industry is as a surface coating.

Surfaces coated with Autotriz exhibit anti-sticking, easy clean, stain proofing and biostatic characteristics. As ceramic coatings are inherently food safe and inert, it is the ideal coating for food production plants, butchery departments, storage vessels, kitchen implements and food handling surfaces.

Autotriz s can be applied to almost any surface, and in most instances we have an “off the shelf” solution to most requests. It should be stressed that not all of our coatings are at the nano scale. Some of our coatings are in the 2-3 micron range.

A nano scale coating is ideal if you wish to coat optical lenses but if you wish to coat flooring in a supermarket then a thicker coating may be more suitable. In all instances our coatings are low cost and very easy to work with.

Autotriz coatings can be used on almost all surfaces within the Healthcare sector. This includes clothing, stethoscopes, surgical instruments, walls, floors, operating theatres and bedside tables. Literally hundreds of surfaces can be coated within a hospital, dental surgery or similar environment.

Autotriz is ideal for protecting cars and motorcycles. Alloy wheels become easy to clean and blemish free, as brake dust does not burn into the coating. Exterior body work and fuel tanks become protected by a glossy, easy to clean and abrasion resistant coating.

Car seats become stain resistant and odours can be significantly reduced, especially if an anti-bac variant is used. Perhaps most significantly all of the windows can be coated with a highly durable and undetectable super-phobic coating which massively increases visibility when driving in heavy rain.

What is paint correction by Melbourne Mobile Detailing

The permanent removal of imperfections for that ultra perfect finish

What is paint correction?

“Unlike the local detailer we have been exclusively trained by many unique manufacturers of the worlds best polishes on how to revive your paintwork, imported from many countries from around the world including Germany and the US, these polishes are offered and distributed in very small amounts and are highly effective on all clear coatings”

Your finest choice for paint correction and paint protection in melbourne

Paint correction is a term that is now commonly used by professional car detailers around the world to describe the process of restoring and rejuvenating the paintwork of a vehicle, mostly through the elimination of surface imperfections, that dull, oxidize, or haze the surface by reflecting light off in various directions, therefore detracting from a true and proper, clean, sharp, reflection. These imperfections include things like swirl marks & fine scratches, bird dropping etching & acid rain etching, hologramming & buffer trails, and random isolated deep scratches

As mentioned by WBRWW     “MMD – A timely process with nothing short of stunning results – A 6 star service from start to finish”

[huge_it_videogallery id=”2″]

Paint Correction by Melbourne Mobile Detailing  is the permanent removal of imperfections within your car paint to reveal a perfect, deep, glossy shine… Paint Correction is not a just ‘cut or buff’ it is a complete transformation of your car’s paintwork and requires a lot of time and expertise, it is for customers who are looking for the best possible finish for their car paint. It is a timely process with nothing short of stunning results

The term paint correction should only really be used if these imperfections are properly removed and are not just merely covered up or hidden with filler based products. The actual corrective process itself comprises of a small amount of clear coat or paint being removed from the surface with the use of abrasive polishes, which are applied and worked in with appropriate polishing machines, in order to level out the surface.

Before any paint correction is undertaken, a thorough wash and decontamination of the vehicle is performed. Paintwork is properly washed and cleaned to remove any loose dirt and debris, then after the wash process is clayed with a specialist automotive clay bar, which safely removes any bonded surface contaminants such as tar spots and industrial fallout.

It is important these contaminants are removed before the paint correction process because if they were to become dislodged and caught up in the pad of a polishing machine, they could easily inflict damage onto the surface very quickly. It also helps to leave the surface very smooth, which in turn, allows the polishing machine to move freely over the surface, reducing the possibility of hopping or sticking occurring. Lastly, claying the paintwork helps you to properly observe the progress of the correction process because you can see the true condition of the surface as you are working.

The polishing is usually a multistage process as a range of different grades of polish are used, ranging from heavier cutting compounds, which remove the surface material, to finer products which then remove any marks that the heavier products may have inflicted and generally refine the finish. During the paint correction process it is common for a paint depth gauge to be used.

Daily wear and paint imperfections like; swirl marks, water spots, light scratches and even bird etching marks can leave your paint looking tired and dull. Paint Correction can usually remove all of these without the high cost and inconvenience of a respray.

Based on our many years of experience we will be more then happy to provide you with an informative and accurate time and cost for correcting your paintwork.

Proper preparation is also the key to good results, your car will be snow foamed to dissolve all the dirt and grime, de-waxed to remove any old polishes or waxes that maybe hiding more defects, decontaminated to remove road tar, tram dust, tree and more – and then taped up with 3M automotive tape to protect the trim, rubbers and other areas that are sensitive. This preparation takes time but ensures the very best results – many other ‘car detailers’ simply skip this step and it shows in the end result.

Unlike the local detailer we have been exclusively trained by many unique manufacturers of the worlds best polishes on how to revive your paintwork, imported from many countries from around the world including Germany and the US, these polishes are offered and distributed in very small amounts and are highly effective on all clear coatings.

We also use specialist lighting to be able to see all of the paint imperfections, and ensure we focus on every area of your car, this lighting imitates sunlight which as any enthusiast knows shows off paintwork to its very best or very worst!

After permanently renewing your paint, we will then detail the rest of the exterior of your car, and protect your paint with a paint sealant or coating and offer you a choice between the two. This will seal in that deep, clear gloss ensuring it remains longer and makes it easier for you to wash and keep your car immaculate.

Once completed professionally, good paint correction can last for many years, it is not something that needs to be repeated frequently – proper washing, protection and maintenance are the key to keeping your paint in excellent condition.

This measures the thickness of the paint on the metal panel and is used before, during and after the process to monitor how much material is being removed and ensure an excess is not removed which could leave the paint too thin or even cause irreversible damage such as a strike through the paint. Specialist halogen or LED lamps which replicate the effect of direct sunlight on the surface are also used during the process to check the condition of the paintwork and see how successfully the surface scratches and imperfections are being removed.

Some scratches or imperfections may actually be too deep or severe to safely remove without risking removing to much surface paint or clear coat and so are minimized and reduced as best as possible using techniques with the machine polisher and polish products that round off the edges of the scratches and make them far less apparent in direct light.

After correction, the panels are wiped down with an isopropyl alcohol which removes any oils that may have been left over from the polish and reveals the true finish, including any areas that may have been missed or require a little more work. Once complete, fully corrected paintwork will shine brilliantly and produce stunning reflections because there are now no longer any scratches and imperfections to scatter and reflect the light rays off in different directions.

Paint correction is a very labor intensive process and is usually the most time consuming part of the car detailing process. Consequently, it commands high premiums from professional detailers & car cleaners, and amateurs or enthusiasts should only attempt to correct their own paintwork if they are completely confident in doing so or have enough experience to carry it out safely.

Paint correction
Paint correction

How do we examine your paint to evaluate the condition?

Firstly we use a ‘Paint Thickness Gauge’ that tells us the overall thickness of your paint in microns, these professional gauges are worth hundreds or thousands of dollars and can provide valuable information to the history of the paint. We also include our years of detailing experience to investigate the paint using xenon light, to also find if the car has been resprayed or repaired, as these are also important factors.

How long does Paint Correction take?

It depends entirely on the current condition of your paint. Some minor paint corrections can take 2 days, while some serious corrections for badly weathered and worn paint can take 6-7 days – yes that is up to 50 hours of polishing, refinement and finishing for one car.

How much does Paint Correction cost?

Time and quality equal cost, so it depends on how long a Paint Correction is going to take. Generally the price averages at $600 for a minor correction of entire vehicle

Does Paint Correction remove a lot of paint and endanger my car?

If done by a real professional that knows about paint types, hardness, depth and uses the best car care products and modern techniques – No. The majority of imperfections are within the first 5-10 microns of paint/clear coat, a modern car should come with 100-140 microns of paint. If the correct techniques are used then the removal of paint is minimal and consistent, a lot of cars have more paint ‘hacked off and unevenly’ by some unqualified detailers and car washes that offer a cheap ‘cut and buff’.

When you polish a car with a machine, will it leave holograms and swirl marks?

Incorrect. When car paint is polished badly using poor technique, cheap products, dirty pads or insufficient preparation then yes, holograms / buffer trails or swirl marks are left in the paint and these can be seen in the sunlight. We prepare the paint surface properly, use only the best products and 30+ years of combined experience – we guarantee results.

Why don’t you offer Stage 1 or 2 details?

Some detailers offer stage 1, 2 or 3 details / corrections / enhancements. We do not believe in this kind of ‘detail’ – let alone for a ‘paint correction’. The reality is that the paint on your car is in varying conditions on different areas/panels. For example; the paint on your bonnet or boot is probably in worse condition due to harsher circumstances than the paint on your doors, perhaps. Therefore it will take more time, more ‘stages’ with the polisher and a range of polishes and pads – so while 1 stage might give good results for some areas, it will not for all. We analysis and treat every area of your car with focused techniques to deliver real results and bring all panels up to the same standard, some panels need 1 or 2 stages while others may need 4 or 5 to achieve the same finish.

Many companies and individuals will say that they can polish a car but sadly, the results are often very poor – paint levels can be left dangerously low, there may be visible marks left from the buffing itself, the original marks may still be present but just temporarily filled, etc. When it comes to paint correction/polishing, you really need a specialist.

At Melbourne Mobile Detailing we have years of experience in paint correction to concours standards and beyond.

It’s for all of these reasons that we truly believe that the service we offer is second to none

In conclusion, paint correction is the process of removing surface scratches and imperfections from a vehicles paintwork, which involves the use of machine polishers and a range of different polish products. A fully corrected vehicle when viewed in direct sunlight will show only true reflections and no swirl marks, scratches or blemishes will be visible to the naked eye.

Lastly, it is important to distinguish between paintwork that has been truly corrected and paintwork that has been treated with products that are designed to mask and fill surface imperfections such as an all in one polish for example. This should not be referred to as paint correction even if no scratches or blemishes are apparent, because they have not been genuinely removed and are still present under the products fillers, which in time, will wash away and reveal them once more.

What exactly is a nano ceramic glass paint protection?

Generally it is a clear liquid. It is comprised of carrier solvents/fluids and a group of active ingredients. Nano ceramic glass sio2 resin technology, developed through many years of research and development, is a closely guarded secret in the paint protection world. However it is a per-polymer ceramic glass resin bonded with several agents to increase gloss, protection and durability over new car clear coat finishes.

It reacts with the atmosphere to cure and forms a complex cross-linked uniform layer of protection.

a nano ceramic glass paint protection bonds to the paint using several methods based on chemical reactions that occur between your cars paint and the coating itself.  The most prominent is the “covalent” bonding process, whereby two electrons from opposing substrates form an inseparable bond at the molecular level.

The only way to remove paint protection of high grade from your vehicle is with abrasion, such as sanding or machine compounding.

Is paint protection really permanent?
Most paint protections available in todays market are as permanent as the paint on your car. Once the coating is applied to your vehicle, the covalent bonding process begins immediately. Due to the strong chemical bonding process (interlocking paint molecules) it essentially becomes the functional surface of your car.

What areas can be coated with paint protection?
It can be applied to the entire exterior of your vehicle
Mostly we apply it to paint, glass and wheels as part of a package deal available from your approved applicator.

What is the difference between professional paint protection and what a dealer is offering?
Your dealer is most likely selling you a WAX with added PTFE (Teflon) for added durability. Wax simply does not have the durability or protection that a “coating” like paint protection melbourne can provide. Ask to see the bottle of “paint protection” they are offering. If it’s a creamy substance, its a wax!

How is paint protection applied?
Most professional series products are only available to applicators who have been trained in its application method. These products arrive in a “kit” containing all that the applicator needs to apply the coating.

Will it paint protection protect from stone chips?
No it will not.

For a coating to be strong enough to resist stone chips, the product would be too brittle.

Do I need to use special soaps/shampoos to wash the car?
No you do not.
You can use any shampoo you like, even the heavy duty ones.

Can I still wax the car after application of paint protection if I want to?
Yes you can, although it is not needed and can actually have a negative impact on the hydrophobic effect of paint protection.

How long before I can drive my car or get it wet?
The vehicle must remain stationary for at least 2 hours prior to light driving.
If you are intending to go for a longer drive or it is raining, you must wait 12  hours before driving.
